FAQ
What people ask.
Do I need to install an app on my phone?
No. The phone just opens a page in the browser and uses the camera through it. If you like, you can add it to your home screen as an app.
Does it work outside my Wi-Fi?
No. Zipcam works with the phone and the PC on the same Wi-Fi network. Different networks, such as cellular data, are not supported, and some office, school or guest networks block communication between devices.
What about iPhone?
It works through Safari, with fewer camera controls than on Android. You also need to keep the iPhone screen on while streaming.
Which apps can see the camera?
Those that use DirectShow, such as Zoom, Discord, OBS and browsers like Chrome. Some Microsoft Store apps only read a different camera format and may not list it. For those, OBS with its virtual camera usually solves it.
Does my video go through your servers?
No. The server only handles pairing, and the video goes straight from the phone to the PC inside your network. The connection is encrypted.
Is there a Mac or Linux version?
Not yet. The app is Windows only. The phone can be Android or iPhone.
How do I receive my Pro key?
After payment we email you the key. In Zipcam, right-click the tray icon, choose “License...” and paste the key. Activation needs internet once; after that the app validates by itself, offline.
Can I use it on more than one computer? What about refunds?
The key works on up to 2 computers. To move to a new PC, deactivate the license on the old one in the same “License” screen. If you are refunded, the license is deactivated and the app returns to the free plan at its next check (every 7 days, when online).
